Multigenerational lush outdoor space - Moonee Ponds

Our clients’ vision

A lush outdoor space incorporating an open paved entertaining area nestled within, to be enjoyed with family including young grandchildren.

Before

When we met our clients, their expansive backyard included a large fig tree, an incredible collection of beautiful plants growing in pots, raised vegetable beds, fertile well-worked-over soil and brick pathways.

Our brief was twofold:

  • To create a flourishing outdoor space that included a shaded sitting nook under the existing Fig tree and an open paved entertaining area

  • To plant existing potted treasures into in-ground beds, and fill out the space with additional edible, ornamental shade, flowering, and native plants to create a diverse and beautiful garden

During

We relocated the existing raised vegetable bed to open up the garden’s vista, and Wild Urban Green’s skilled carpenter Chris handcrafted a second bed using Cyprus sleepers from Ceres Fairwood.

The soil was in excellent condition and needed only a little additional organic matter. Our clients’ potted plants were tucked into the soil, together with many new plant friends - edibles, natives, and exotic ornamentals.

Spectacular salvaged brick paving work by Phil Mullett from Broadleaf Landscapes saw the main brick pathway extended towards the shed, along with the creation of a paved sitting area, an entertaining area, and brick stepping pads throughout the space connecting to the existing brick pathways.
